What is a muscle knot, why does it happen and what you can do to relieve it
Let’s talk about knots!! 🤗
•➰’Knots’, or trigger points, are sensitive spots in taut muscle fibre which, when pressed, feel tender and refer pain or twitching elsewhere in the body.
•➰These little knots are caused by injuries, poor posture, muscular overuse, repetitive micro trauma (weightlifting) and muscular strains. 🏋🏼♀️
•➰When the muscle, tendon or ligament becomes overstretched, weakened or inflamed, tiny tears occur and these tiny tears heal twisted and knotted.
•➰Trigger points keep muscles short and tightened, resulting in a loss of flexibility and poor movement.🤸🏻♀️
•➰They restrict needed blood flow to muscle cells.
•➰They cause the muscle fibres to shorten and protect from injury, and the muscle will learn to avoid pain by restricting movement and other parts of your body will overcompensate.
Stretching helps prevent trigger points in muscles but it will not get rid of trigger points that are already there! Only trigger point therapy & massage will do this!!‼️ ⚠️
